Can't-Wait Wednesday: Five Feet Apart - Rachael Lippincott

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week I can't wait for Five Feet Apart!

Five Feet Apart
Rachael Lippincott
Series: n/a
Release Date: November 20, 2018
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Waited on by: Sam
Soon to be a major motion picture in March 2019!

In this moving story that’s perfect for fans of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, two teens fall in love with just one minor complication—they can’t get within five feet of each other without risking their lives.

Can you love someone you can never touch?

Stella Grant likes to be in control—even though her totally out of control lungs have sent her in and out of the hospital most of her life. At this point, what Stella needs to control most is keeping herself away from anyone or anything that might pass along an infection and jeopardize the possibility of a lung transplant. Six feet apart. No exceptions.

The only thing Will Newman wants to be in control of is getting out of this hospital. He couldn’t care less about his treatments, or a fancy new clinical drug trial. Soon, he’ll turn eighteen and then he’ll be able to unplug all these machines and actually go see the world, not just its hospitals.

Will’s exactly what Stella needs to stay away from. If he so much as breathes on Stella she could lose her spot on the transplant list. Either one of them could die. The only way to stay alive is to stay apart. But suddenly six feet doesn’t feel like safety. It feels like punishment.

What if they could steal back just a little bit of the space their broken lungs have stolen from them? Would five feet apart really be so dangerous if it stops their hearts from breaking too?
I saw this tweet a few weeks ago, and I was intrigued.

This story must be pretty great for the film adaptation to begin PRIOR to its release.

What can I say? Sick kid stories get me right in the feels, and from what I read in this article, it will be tissue-worthy, but also uplifting.

What are you waiting on?

  1. Yeah it must be pretty special if they're already adapting it. I don't usually read books will illnesses like this, but I have to say this one does sound really good.

    1. I am holding the writer to making it uplifting. I am usually ok with sick kids, as long as they don't die. Is that asking too much?

  3. I'm often put off books like these, but it does sound different and if it's going to be a movie I want to read the book first! ;)

  12. Wow! It's crazy that the movie is being made before the book is released! It makes me a little more curious about the story. I'm already in love with the cover and adding it to my list! <3

    2. Interesting... but it actually looks like the movie was made first and they adapted the book after but are releasing it first ... smart marketing but unusual!

  13. This book has YOU written all over it! It's impressive that the movie wheels got into motion well before release. Sounds like it's going to be a monster hit!

    1. Casting looks awesome, but then again, since I know very little about the book, I cannot attest to the fit, but I love the Sprouse boys.

  18. I hadn't heard of this one before but what a perilous and terrible situation be in. Being apart must be such a struggle for them both! Also, I always wonder how books can be set to become movies even when they haven't come out yet??

    2. Interesting! Although the article says the book is actually an adaptation of the movie! Looks the movie was in the works first and they decided to make a book about it... weird!
