Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Goodreads
Bridget Jones’s Diary meets Mean Girls as lovably flawed high school student Chloe Snow chronicles her junior year as she navigates the highs and lows of family, friendship, school, and losing her virginity.

I’ll be honest: junior year has been a disaster.

My horrible mom is back from Mexico.

My dad’s girlfriend is living in our house.

Did I mention my parents aren’t divorced yet?

On the plus side, I lost my virginity!...and then the whole school found out and I got slut-shamed.

Then, somehow, I got popular! But according to some people, it turned me into a monster, and I’m pretty sure everyone hates me now.

Oh, and there was the Thanksgiving fiasco, and the prom queen debacle, and the illegal middle-of-the-night drive to the hospital.

Want to hear the whole wild story? You’ll have to read my notes.
REVIEW

I can't even express how excited I was to read this book. I fell in love with Chloe Snow last year, when I happened to read her second book, The Year of Living Awkwardly. It made me so happy, that I immediately read (and loved) her first book.

Chloe Snow joins a short list of heroine's, who star in these dairy style books, which I adore. Like Jessica Darling and Ruby Oliver, these books follow Chloe for one year of her life. This book focused on her Junior year, which was filled with a bunch of BIG firsts, a lot of ups and downs, and tremendous personal growth.

I was really elated to see that Chloe's relationship from the end of the prior book was flourishing, and I was just drowning in all that precious first love stuff going on between them. But, while her romantic life was doing well, Chloe's home life was falling apart.

Dad's relationship with Miss Murphy went next level, leaving Chloe as an outsider in her own home. That, combined with her dad's inability to recognize she was growing up, and the return of her sort of emotionally abusive mom, left Chloe a bit adrift. She sort of lost herself and lost sight of the things and people, who were really important to her. I just wanted her to listen to her little voice, as well as Grady's actual voice (because that boy was quite wise for 15/16 year old). Damage was done, but Chloe learned a lot from the experience, and I was proud of the steps she took to correct the situation.

Needless to say, I STILL adore Chloe Snow. She was, as always, honest and amusing and an utter delight. I rode the emotional roller coaster right by her side, and was happy to share the good and bad times with her. It's been a pleasure watching Chloe grow up, and I am crossing my fingers, that I will get to celebrate senior year with her.

  1. I love when a character makes a lot of growth. This sounds like a fun story with all of the firsts, especially first love. Grady sounds like a wonderful character and support for Chloe as well. Lovely Review Sam!

    1. I liked the way Chastain chose something different to tackle in each book. The last book, focused largely on Chloe's love life, whereas, this one focuses mostly on her family life. And, yes, Grady is wonderful.

  3. I had no idea this was part of a series. Chloe sounds amazing! It's sad how she feels an outsider in her own mom and that her mom is back. She must be dealing with a lot. Grady sounds wonderful!

    1. Her mom is the worst! But, at least she makes some progress on that issue in this book.

  4. I thought the blurb for this sounded fun but I had no idea until your review that it was part of a series! They should probably include that...
It's been a long time since I've read a diary still book. I like it when it's done well.
Glad you loved this especially when you were so excited for it.

    1. This is a series, but each book could stand on its own. I read the second book, and then went back and read the first one, because I loved it so much. There are a few references to things from the prior book, but Chastain does it in that way where she presents you with enough information to move forward.
