Top Ten Tuesday: My Winter TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week's topic is...

My Winter TBR!

Yes, my friends, winter is coming, and it's time to make those hard choices. It's time to select some of those "must read" books for my winter TBR. This is a really difficult choice, since when I looked at my Goodreads TBR, I had over 300 2018 releases shelved. So, I narrowed it down to books I actually have, and it was hard, but I am committed to reading these ten books, which all have release dates in January and February.

Busted
Gina Ciocca
Series: n/a
Publisher: Sourcefire Books

This one sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun. When this "snoop" is hired to spy on her best friend's boyfriend, it seems she may actually be the "other woman". Early reviews are throwing around terms descriptors like fun and name dropping Veronica Mars, so I think this one will delight me.

Love and Other Train Wrecks
Leah Konen
Series: n/a
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books

This was one of my Can't-Wait Wednesday picks mostly because I enjoyed Konen's last book so much, but I also love the idea of someone pessimistic about love being trapped with someone optimistic about love. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

A Quiet Kind of Thunder
Sara Barnard
Series: n/a
Publisher: Macmillan Children's Books

Seriously, I have tears in my eyes from reading the synopsis. A boy who cannot hear helps a selective mute find her voice. I am anticipating lots of feels, and from what I have heard, Barnard knows how to deliver them.

Nice Try, Jane Sinner
Lianne Oelke
Series: n/a
Publisher: Clarion Books

I like that Jane is resourceful, and solves her housing problem by signing up for a Big Brother type reality show. Reality shows usually result in some great hijinks and delicious drama. I am eager to see how this concept plays out, and early reviews are encouraging, calling it chaotic and funny.

The Dangerous Art of Blending In
Angelo Surmelis
Series: n/a
Publisher: Blazer + Bray

I think this is going make me cry and feel a lot of feels. I love coming of age stories, and this one combines abuse and identity issues. I may have already shed a few tears while reading the blurb.

Olivia Twist
Lorie Langdon
Series: n/a
Publisher: Blink

I am such a fan of Oliver Twist, and am excited to see how Langdon re-tells this story. This book will also be a little change of pace for me, as it is a historical romance, and a little variety will be good for me.

#Prettyboy Must Die: A Novel
Kimberly Reid
Series: n/a
Publisher: Tor Teen

A former foster kid turned CIA operative. This sounds promising, and I am eager to see how the whole sort-of teen Die Hard plays out. I read a ton of contemporaries, and this sounds like it will be well worth branching off into suspense-thriller for a change.

The Precious Dreadful
Steven Parlato
Series: n/a
Publisher: Simon Pulse

While participating in a teen writing program, Teddi begins to uncover some memories that have her unsettled and she is determined to solve this puzzle. That combined with two love interests and a ghost have me intrigued.

Flight Season
Marie Marquardt
Series: n/a
Publisher: Wednesday Books

I absolutely adored Marie Marquardt's The Radius of Us, and jumped at the chance to read this book. She just knows how to write a beautiful and powerful book, and I suspect this book will provide a feelsplosion too.

The Upside of Falling Down
Rebekah Crane
Series: n/a
Publisher: Skyscape

When I saw this book, I was interested, because it is set outside the US and features a survivor/amnesia storyline, which I always seem to enjoy. Then I realized it was written by Crane, who also wrote The Odds of Loving Grover Cleveland, which I though was fabulous, and I was all in.

    1. Yeah, I couldn't resist the reference. There are quite a few books I read just because they had an intriguing title, and lucky me, the books were good too.

    1. #prettyboy is such a change of pace for me, but if it was a movie or a TV show, I would watch it, so why not read it? Busted sounds wonderfully complicated and I am a fan of the author. Hoping I love them all!

    1. I am all over anything promising a VMars type PI. I am very hopeful about Jane Sinner too. I like redemption type stories, and it sounds like it may go that way. Plus, the reality show parts should provided some good comic fodder.

    1. I like re-tellings. My feelings about re-tellings is the same as about cover songs - I want to see the author bring something new to the story. I am not looking for it to just be slightly different from the original, just capture the essence and be something sort of new. That is my hope for Olivia Twist.

  11. I can honestly say that *all* of these are new to me. Outside of my handful of favorite authors I don't really keep up with upcoming releases. A Quiet Kind of Thunder sounds like it will be so moving. And the premise of The Upside of Falling Down definitely caught my eye. I'll be keeping an eye out for those two!

    1. Some of these are new releases from authors I have enjoyed, but a lot are new to me too. You know I comb Goodreads like a fiend. I like finding the less hyped books and reading debuts as well. I should be starting to read these in early December, so I will have stars and reactions posted during Dec.
