Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

It's as if I cannot drive home from the airport without crying. Goodbyes are hard. 😢

We had a nice, quiet week. Sunday, we Kozbial women went to see White Christmas. As always, the production was wonderful. I am big fan of that film, and it was nice watching the dancing and listening to those old standards.

Christmas Day, we went to my sister's for our Sauerbraten, potato dumplings, and red cabbage. There was ham and other stuff for the non-German food fans. I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday. I don't get a ton of gifts. Got a gift card and money from my parents, which is always great, but as always, my daughter out-gifted everyone.

Sloth approves!

I love quirky knee socks, and she bought me a whole lotta Sock-It to Me socks, which I loved! She also surprised me by buying us tickets to Mean Girls and arranging a backstage tour. The best part of that gift is that it brings her back home in two months!

I have read the books and seen most of the films on this list. Have you seen/read any?

STACKING THE SHELVES

It was a quiet week, as expected, for approvals. I got approved for two books on NG, which I already had from EW, so nothing to talk about there, but I did get a galley of Sidelined, which sounds really fun.

What I Read Last Week

I read a lot of really fun books this week, but in some strange twist, the saddest book was my favorite. I shed quite a few tears reading Our Year of Maybe. It's not sad in that somebody-dies way, but it was still sad. I felt like a boss knocking out three tour books, and even reading a shelf book.

What I Am Currently Reading

This is my last Sara Barnard book. I really hope they release more of her books in the US, because I adore them. I am continuing with the Carly Phillips series, because it's quite fun. Siblings and moms and romance is always a good thing.

What I Plan to Read

I am pretty hyped to read the new Sally Thorne book, and I couldn't resist getting House Arrest from the library after seeing so many great reviews.

How was your week?

  1. Oh White Christmas on stage sounds delightful. I love that movie. Glad you had a nice Christmas. :)

The afterlife of Holly Chase looks interesting, and ooh E. Lockhart- that makes me curious about The Disreputable History.

    Happy New Year!

    1. The play was really great. My daughter was saying the same production team that did the Broadway show designed the one we saw. The costumes, the dances, the sets -- all fantastic. I had an ARC of Holly Chase since last year, and it slipped through the cracks, but I am glad I finally "read" the story, because it was really, really good. I have had Frankie since 2015, and I am not even reading my copy. I checked a eBook out from the library instead, but I am looking forward to reading it - FINALLY.

  5. I love those socks! I hate saying goodbye too but in my case it's always the reverse - saying goodbye to my mum! She lives back in Scotland and I see her 2 or 3 times a year so saying goodbye sucks. :( At least you have another visit on the horizon with your daughter! What a wonderful present.

Glad you had a nice Christmas Sam! Have a happy New Year!

  6. Good evening! !
It is 9:30 PM on 30th Japan time now.
It is the custom of Japan's year end.
In the year end, we say “Yoi otoshi wo” to each other wishing for the coming
    year to be pleasurable.
The New Year season is the most significant season for the Japanese.
All the Christmas décor is switched to the New Year’s in a blink.
Major New Year icons are the pine tree, bamboo, plums and so on. All of them are symbols of good fortune and longevity.

  7. Goodbyes are always hard. :( But she'll be back in a couple months so that's wonderful! Glad y'all had such a good time at the play. The music from that one is so good. Love all the socks! Your girl did great. LOL I'm excited to read your review of Stay (I'm behind, as always).

    1. I forgot how many mega famous old songs were featured in White Christmas. The guy, who play Bing's part had a very good voice too. He wasn't Bing, but he was still great.

  8. I received The Afterlife of Holly Chase for Christmas and then the author sent me a signed bookplate!!! Also, House Arrest was one of the best verse middle grade books I've read. I also had to check it out of the library after seeing so many great reviews. Happy New Year!

    1. I am reading House Arrest, because it kept popping up lately, and everything being said was stellar. I had to check it out. Yeah for books for Christmas (I didn't even get an Amazon gift card). I hope you like Holly Chase. I really enjoyed it.

    1. I get really lucky with adult romances, not so much with my YA requests though, as certain pubs always reject me (Penguin, Disney). I am hoping 99 Percent Mine lives up to my expectations.

    1. I cried a lot for Sophie as I read Our Year of Maybe. I was so happy that Peter was getting a chance to live a life he never thought was possible, but I was sad that Sophie was not a huge part of it. Very emotional.

    1. We are pretty low key at Christmas since all the kids are grown, but fun gifts are always good. I get hung over from sad books and need to follow up with something light and fun right away.

  15. I love socks! I usually don't get them and now I am addicted to Bombas so I only want them now. But love the quirky socks and it's great that you had a good Christmas. I hope you have a great new year and YAY on reading all those books. I only read one through all of this. I hope to pick that up in the new year with school going. Have a Happy New Year!

    1. Those are cute, but my ankles get cold, and I have big calves, so knee socks are the only kind of socks I wear. I think you do a good job with your reading considering how much you have on your plate. I didn't start pleasure reading again until my daughter went to college, and I didn't have her to take care of any longer. Happy New Year to you too!

    1. We only have the dumplings once a year, because they are a lot of work, but I think it makes them more special. My Oma used to make them, then my father learned, then my sister started making them with him, and this year, my daughter helped. It's a family recipe, so it can only be taught that way.
