Sunday Post - June 25, 2017

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer, where I can share my wrap up of the past week, as well as plans for the current week.

My Week in Review

My current location is North Carolina. Today is the day that my daughter can finally move into her dorm room. I am going to miss the hotel life, but I knew I would have to eventually return to reality. And I cannot lie, I was pretty giddy when I saw this:

On the blog:

What I Read Last Week

With the long driving, packing, and unpacking, I did not read as much as I would have liked to, but I read some good books. I sort of changed up my planned books for a few different reasons. I put Today Will Be Different aside, because of a combination of not stellar reviews, and because I really wanted to read Wild Beauty, and Kiersten wanted to bring it to school with her, so I had to act quickly. I am glad I did. Wild Beauty was my top read of the week. Between the beautiful prose and the great storytelling, I was totally captivated by this book.

What I Am Currently Reading

I am really excited to read the new Kasie West book. I love her so much, and I did not think I was going to get a review copy of this one. When I saw the approval, I almost cried. I started listening to Rules of Contact, and will probably listen to it as I drive from North Carolina back to New Jersey.

What I Plan to Read

I have the drive home on Monday. It took 10 hours to get here, so I don't think there will be much reading, but I may get through an audiobook.

How was your week?

    1. I knew there was something on the way for Green, because I had gotten this survey concerning a "new John Green" book a few months ago, but he is sort of blitzing here. The book comes out really soon. Lucky in Love is really cute, as expected, but I want more of Zoo Seth. =)

    1. I always write my reviews right after I finish a book, so I have lots of drafts ready to go. It was nice that my co-bloggers were able to finally blog.

  4. Paper and Fire was so good. Would you believe I have never read anything by Green? My hubby went to college in NC.

    1. Gah, my experience with NC State has not been stellar. The analytics department has been awesome, but all we have had is problems with the university. I hope it improves. I really love Green's books, and have read them all. My favorite is not a fan favorite (An Abundance of Katherines), but they are all good. Looking forward to continuing the Great Library series, though I saw there are five books slated! What did I get myself into, LOL.

  5. Glad you managed to get your daughter to her dorm. Hotel life can be nice but reality had to return at some point. I was so excited to hear about John Green's new book. I'm sat dithering over preordering because I am going to hype it up in my mind but I do love the sound of it. I haven't loved all John Green's books but I definitely want to give this one a shot.

You may not have been able to get through as many books as you liked but you've successfully read more than me this week. Hope next weeks goes well for you.

    1. The dorm has been and is a nightmare. I am leaving between 3 and 4 am Monday morning, so I am out of this chaos. I hope it all works out for the kid. John Green is an author that has yet to disappoint me. This new one sounds a little odd, but I am interested to see what he does with it.

    1. Not off to a great start here in the dorm, but I am hoping we can get some of these issues fixed. I am leaving in a few hours for NJ and hope that leaving in the middle of the night will help me avoid that dreaded outer loop traffic. And, you know what I say: KWest is best. ;)

  7. That John Green video is kind of exciting even though I haven't read his books! I did see the movie version of one of them though. And I don't know, he seems like a nice guy and I love the idea of the book. Not to mention the title!

I think Changes in Latitude looks good and so summery. Hope the move-in went well and have a great week. :)

    1. Changes in Latitudes was cute, and it was a good family drama too. Malone does a good job with banter and also balancing the emotions. The MC was angsty, but not so much as to alienate the reader, and I think that balance is important. I love Green's books -- read them all, saw both adaptations. Have to say, I sort of liked how the Paper Towns movie made it more of a buddy story than the book.

    2. I liked the Paper Towns movie, I hadn't read the book so I had nothing to compare it to, but I thought it was a good show. It was thought provoking.

    3. That is an adaptation where I would say there are many of the original elements, but some things were spun differently. It worked for me.

  9. Good luck to your daughter at school! It is very exciting about the new John Green book, although it's been so long since I've been into reading his stuff that I'm not sure if I'll actually get around to it. I'm excited to hear your thoughts on Lucky in Love, since I've heard lots of great things about Kasie West but have yet to take the plunge myself!

    1. It's been a long time since Green has published a book, but he is one of those authors, that I need to read them all. So far, Lucky in Love is super cute as expected, and I totally want more Zoo Seth. I find him quite amusing and want to get to know him better.

  10. Hotel life is nice (I love that someone else cleans up after us lol) but I bet it will feel good to be back at home. I hope your daughter has a good school year! You've read so many books that are on my tbr. Lucky in Love sounds really good and I need to start The Great Library series. I hope you have a safe trip home and a great week!

    1. This move in is payback for my 4 days of hotel life. I worked like a beast today unpacking and driving all over Raleigh to get all the things that my child considers "basics". A ton of money was spent today, but I am happy to set her on her very serious new path. So far, so good with Lucky in Love. I needed something totally cute after that sad graphic novel I read yesterday. I really enjoyed the first book of the The Great Library series. I find all the alternate future stuff really cool.

    1. A new Green book is worth celebrating. It has been too long. Took 8 hours to get to DE. That dreaded traffic in North VA 😑

    1. I think both Edelweiss and NetGalley have Sparks. I really liked the first book, and am excited to read book 2. So far, grad school is not awesome. Lots of housing issues, and we never had any problems in her four years at Syracuse. Fingers crossed she is able to straighten it all out.

    1. My favorite JG book is his least dramatic one. I just think he writes great characters, who I want to know more about. I am a fan of the Play-by-Play books. I think the series has evolved a lot since the first book, and the books are always fun and schmexy. Even my least favorite entertained me.

    1. I got nothing but love for John Green and now I have his new book to look forward to. *hooray, hooray* I did better than I thought I would last week, and I finished Lucky in Love yesterday. It was very cute. Not my fave by West, but still fun, cute, and I actually liked the love interest.
